Nesting

"You don't find a happy life.. You make it"

I'm finally getting settled into my new place...or as I like to call it "nesting" -in fact i'm actually doing something I have pictured myself doing for a long time..relaxing on my new couch under a cozy blanket..updating my blog. I'm extremely content in this moment.  I don't have internet yet so a personal hotspot from my phone is doing the trick tonight. I'm finally getting used to the sounds of my new home and i'm most thrilled to say miss Georgia is finally adjusting to the big move as well. Who knew a cat would have such a hard time transitioning? I certainly did not realize and....I was not prepared.  To paint you a tiny picture it was somewhat like (what I would imagine) having a new born baby would be like....late night "crying", constant attention and big messes.

I'm counting down the days til my vacation. I can't begin to describe how ready I am to see some of my favorite people. September is going to be such a fun month with lots of adventures and I can't wait for it to arrive, but while I wait here are some little moments of time i'm thankful for right now:
*Unending love from my friends- i've officially hosted two little events at my new place and they were both perfect. I love the people in my life.
*A Mug swap :) (i love love love getting mail)
*Photos that warm my apartment with beautiful memories
*Walking in an afternoon rain shower
*Duck Dynasty- i laugh out loud over this show. it does my soul good
*A mother that is supportive even when I don't deserve it
*Making an apartment a home. I'm thankful for the resources to provide for myself and make a home as hard as it may be at times to do it alone. When I step back and see how far i've come i'm absolutely humbled.

Heart of the matter

The Garcia's came to visit this summer and I got the chance to see them twice! I know it thrilled Leslie that they were able to come to her wedding..what a special memory! There is nothing like getting to see sweet La Nariz family in Mississippi. I realized after the picture on the right with Josue that he is pretty much the same height as me now(possibly a bit taller) which got me to thinking.. the first time I went to La Nariz I was 15 years old. Josue was just a baby still in diapers! Thats the year I set out for a tiny village i'd never heard of thousands of miles away surround by a small group of my peers and my youth pastor. I had no idea what was ahead or what I would find when I arrived- I had no idea what the relationships with people here would mean me. No idea how it would change my heart and my love for people and HOW I loved people. I had No idea that i'd meet a 2 year old little girl that year named Yohanna that would forever mean the world to me.  That was 10 years ago. I haven't been able to return every year, but I think i've gone 5  other times since my first trip. That first trip changed my life and the way I saw things in this world. You don't know what third world life is really like until you see it, taste it, breath it in. You don't know love until a tiny dusty hand grabs yours and won't let go. You don't know what true joy is until you see the smiles on the faces of children who sleep on dirt floors and in the American mind have nothing to smile about. These relationships last despite time and miles because there is something very special about that dusty little village in the middle of nowhere because God lives in the hearts of the people there and when i'm there I can so clearly see a picture of heaven. Despite language barriers there is love and there is an unspeakable joy all because we are children of the almighty God and that unites us.
